QRP-L E-Mail Reflector

Perhaps one of the best ways to stay up-to-date with what's happening in the QRP world is to subscribe to the QRP-L Internet E-mail reflector. There are around 3000 subscribers on the reflector, commonly known as the QRP-L List, so if it's happening anywhere, you will get the news. It is a virtual ham community where you can ask a technical or operating question and get answers very quickly. Many of the residents of the list are experts in their fields (professional or amateur) and have a lot of expertise and experience to share.

The way that an E-mail reflector works is that once subscribed, you will start receiving E-mail messages from anyone who posts a message to the list. If you post a message, it gets forwarded to everyone on the list. With around 3000 subscribers, the QRP-L list gets a lot of traffic, often 70 to 100 postings per day. Be prepared for a lot of E-mail messages!

If you want to see what the message postings look like before making the commitment to subscribe, surf over to http://www.kkn.net/archives/html/QRP-L/ to read the archives on your web browser. The archive is updated many times a day with new postings, so it will be reasonably current.

Subscribing is easy. Go the info page at http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/qrp-l and fill out the on-line form by inserting your E-mail address and a password of your choice.

You have the option of receiving individual messages or the daily digest. The digest comes out once per day and has 24 hours of messages batched in one large E-mail

After you click on the "Subscribe" button, watch for an automated message to be sent to you. The message subject probably will be "Request to mailing list QRP-L rejected". Don't worry, the system does this automatically to prevent spammers from gaining access to the list. Just respond with the information it requests, your name and callsign.

You will be approved by the list administrator, Jim Lowman AD6CW, usually within 24 hours. Then you will receive a welcome message from QTH.NET, with the subject 'Welcome to the "QRP-L" mailing list'. This message contains useful information about the reflector.

That's it! Just sit back and watch the postings flow into your inbox.

Note that only subscribers can post messages to the list, so there is not a bunch of spam to be waded through. If you find that you don't want all the traffic hitting your in box, you can edit your personal settings to disable mail delivery which will stop the messages without unsubscribing. In this way, you can view the messages via your web browser and still post messages to the list. All options are available by entering your email address in the QRP-L Subscribers section on the list info web page

Also, you will receive occasional E-Mail messages from QTH.NET asking for donations. You are under no obligation to send donations to receive QRP-L reflector traffic. However, QTH.NET does offer a valuable service to the amateur radio community and voluntary donations will help support this effort.
